Elena has been our teacher for nearly two years. She has been fantastic with our group. The classes are excellent and each designed to take you forward. We are challenged all the time but in a way that helps us improve.
We also do extra activities arranged by Elena and these also help us improve our Italian. I would highly recommend Elena if you are thinking about learning Italian.
The classes with Elena have made lockdown a lot more bearable. There is a good structure to our learning, but mixed in with a lot of fun so the 90 minutes seem to fly by each week!

Elena is a fantastic teacher. The classes are great fun, and I’ve become far more confident in my Italian since starting with Edinburgh Italian Classes.
My teacher Claudia is very friendly and adjusts the pace of learning to suit me. She is very encouraging and always tries to get the best out of you, which can be challenging when you have other commitments and try to fit in the learning. She explains everything clearly and I’ve never finished a lesson struggling to understand the content.
I took Italian lessons with Elena and she is just great! With small class sizes so you have more of an intimate learning experience that can be tailored to the individuals in the class. The lessons were informative and fun, with different techniques being used to make sure we were able to progress in a way that suited our learning type. With games, listening and conversational elements, it was nice and varied. Elena also was very good at making sure we were all happy and would revisit areas that we needed a bit more help with. If you want to learn Italian, ask for Elena! (Although I’m sure all the teachers here are good but I am biased!)
I’ve been working on my Italian off and on for years, very casually. I finally took the dive to start official lessons and it has been both entertaining and I feel like I’m finally making progress. I go to Italy every year so this has been essential and Manuel makes the lessons fun and engaging. Can’t recommend them enough for Zoom Italian Lessons!
I found Edinburgh Italian Classes to be the most effective way for me to learn Italian. I have tried other methods informal and formal over a couple of years but my language skills: speaking and comprehension noticeably improved after enrolling and attending the classes provided by Manuel. His approach suits me as he chooses methods that work best for the individual and the context of the lesson. Also, he ensures the concepts that are taught/explained in the previous lessons were understood and he builds upon this knowledge. He uses a variety of tools: books, games, oral exercises that provide a well rounded approach to learning Just as important, the classroom atmosphere is very relaxed and this helped me immensely. Having left the UK, I am in the process of learning Portuguese and this is why my review is so positive for Edinburgh Italian Classes. I now truly appreciate the effectiveness and the quality of the classes provided by Manuel. My only regret is that I did not take more advantage of the classes and follow-up exercises at the time. I would recommend Edinburgh Italian Classes to those who want to noticeably improve their Italian.
I’d recommend Edinburgh Italian Classes. Small classes and lots of real world conversation. Classes are not in a classroom but in a house, which is more comfortable than a formal classroom.
Excellent teacher – Italian of course – in classes with flexible numbers. Very good for small groups. Everyone is encouraged to speak about what really interests them, so the conversation flows. Great for all levels. Learn Italian as it’s really spoken!
Manuel is a great teacher. Classes are always interesting and fun. I like that he is really adjusting to student’s needs so whenever you want an intense course or just conversation in relaxed atmosphere, I think you would be happy with Edinburgh Italian Classes.
Approachable, friendly teacher. Great variety in professionally planned lessons. I loved the small group but occasionally took private lessons to catch up as I missed a lot. Teacher is very flexible about this. Very good value.
When I decided to study my master’s degree in Italian I was recommended Manuel’s classes by a friend. Manuel did a great job tailoring the classes to my specific needs and brought me up to the necessary level in a short period of time. I attended both individual and group classes and found that he made learning interesting and fun! Highly recommended!
I’ve been going to Edinburgh Italian Classes for 5 years now and can thoroughly recommend Manuel as a teacher. He is very thorough and patient with a good sense of humour. He is keen that you learn the language correctly and also colloquially. You always have a list of sayings to trot out in Italy to impress the locals!

I’ve been learning Italian with Manuel for about 6 years now both in group and private classes. I find his classes really enjoyable and while I am challenged, I don’t feel under any pressure, it’s a relaxed and friendly environment. The lessons aren’t test based and so you can progress at whatever pace suits you best which is good for me! Boring detail but useful – free parking on street. Grazie Manuel!
